Periventricular hemorrhagic infarction

A venous infarction of the white matter beside the lateral ventricle that appears on cranial ultrasound as an echodense or cystic lesion, historically called grade IV intraventricular hemorrhage.

Found
Seen on cranial ultrasound as an echodense or cystic lesion in the periventricular white matter beside the lateral ventricle.
Normal
Symmetrical periventricular white matter of uniform echogenicity with no focal lesion beside the ventricle.
Abnormal
A focal echodense lesion in the periventricular white matter, usually beside the frontal horn of the lateral ventricle or in the parietal white matter, sometimes becoming cystic.
Suggests
A venous infarction of the periventricular white matter, historically graded as grade IV intraventricular hemorrhage.
